How many years have you been a physiotherapist?
I graduated in 1995 from the University of Saskatchewan. I treated two years in the United States and then moved to Calgary and have worked in orthopedic physiotherapy settings since that time.

Why did you become a Physiotherapist?
I was a dancer growing up and also participated in multiple other sports. When trying to decide what to do for my career, I was introduced to physiotherapy by a friend of our family who was a health care professional. He knew that I wanted a career in health care and thought that physiotherapy would be a great fit to combine my love of sport and movement with my want to help others. He was right! I feel so grateful to have a job that I can help people get out of pain and back to doing what they love.

Do you have an area of special interest?
I like treating a diverse caseload from the weekend sport warrior, to neck and back pain to those with chronic pain. Most recently, I took an advanced shoulder course so have had more of an interest in that area lately but I like to treat all body parts and injuries.

How does movement impact your life?
When not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors running, skiing and hiking with family and friends. I also like to workout at the gym and barre studio. Being active keeps me smiling and also fit for work.

What does a great physiotherapy experience look like to you?
Understanding what a patient’s goals and outcomes are for their treatment and achieving those goals through working together make for a great experience for both of us. I am thankful that we have one on one 30 minute appointments with our patients so that I have the time to listen, treat and give appropriate exercises without having to multi-task between patients. From walking through the door, to treatment, to paying and booking the process should be easy and efficient in a comfortable and supportive environment. Patient’s should also feel that they understand what their injury is, how to treat it and what the expectations of both of us are during that process. Information given should be based on not only experience but up to date evidence based research and clinical information.
